AM: Quick turn around from last nights run. Not smart but hopefully routine will come back soon. Met Mike and Matt at Scott's house. I knew Matt was going to do some tempo when the text said Scott's house again so I planned a little Fartlik. Mike had already done 3 miles tempo yesterday and was kind enough to dog it with me. Nothing special about it. 4 mile WU and 2.5 miles of Fartlik. Only 5 surges. Just a mediocre pickup run. Didn't clock the splits. Just wanted to get my legs used to some kind of quick pace again. Need more "quick" in the pace though. Rest periods were too slow also. 7:30AP

LUNCH:  Had a ton of flem and could barely talk this morning.  Decided to finally try and rest bc I could not last night.  I love when a little rest and relaxation pays off.  Easy miles along PRT.  Felt very relaxed and very easy effort during the solo run.  It rained on me the first 2.5 miles and cleared up nicely.  This fall has been gorgoeus!  7:40AP...

Afternoon:  ran after a short Halloween work day. Ben M ran the first 2 miles with me and then Jessica Stanford met up on the Rock Trail and ran the last 4 or so with me. Great weather. And fun conversations during the run. Took it really easy the whole run. 8:00 AP

Have had a head cold since Tuesday evening. Hasn't been fun. I drank a ton of fluids Thursday and Friday to try and keep hydrated sufficiently. I awoke Sat. morning not too bad as far congestion, fever and headache but with some residual.

road down south with Collin Anderson. We had several cool and interesting conversations about many topics. Collin is a smart dude. Enjoyed having him along. Met up with Dave and Ben at brick oven for dinner. Great time and great pre game food. Enjoyed it. I was dead tired at 10:30 and slept like a log. Been working a ton of hours lately.

My gameplan was simple. Get in 8-10 miles of tempo and no matter how well I was feeling or doing during this race, I treat as a workout and look to be pain free anywhere in my right leg. Had to find a secret bathroom twice at the start and almost missed the start. Saw a lot of familiar faces and said hi to many. Did a broken up easy 2 mile WU some with Amy Cook and some with Ben and Dave and some solo. The temp was heaven this morning. I felt very good legs wise. I was hoping I could feel good for a good workout. I had registered for this race back in March so wanted to make the most of it. My plan was to keep it around 6 flat effort with some miles around 5:40-5:45 to be my fastest and get in a least 8-10 miles of tempo effort.

We took off and it was fun to see everyone ahead and around you. The course is fast through 7 miles. After that miles 8-11 become very honest and will put some hurt on you. Lots of rolling incline and very sharp turns. Very Gorgeous course. I'm convinced I will do this race every year now. Just too cool and a perfect opportunity to go south and golf.

At 7 miles I could tell I was fatigued and starting to feel it. I went for about 2.5-3 more miles of effort. I was right at an hour for 10 and decided at this mile marker to shut it down and jog in. It felt like 7:15-7:20 pace cruising to the finish. I never looked at my watch after 10. The splits were faster so I was excited to feel like I can eventually push myself to run faster and not be guarded.

I kept saying to myself "no freaking pain at all! This is awesome". I have run the entire year in pain and didn't even it know it because now I have done the steps to correct my injuries. So for me I was elated to run pain free. Really excited to have participated in a fun half. So many great runners in Utah right now. Too much talent and it's only going to get better. Happy for all the buddies and friends that did really well today. Some great racing out there.

Splits: 5:50, 6:11, 6:09, 5:42, 5:37, 5:42, 5:57, 6:44(exhausted ouch!), 6:17, 6:30(shut it down from here completely), 6:55,6:51, 6:48, :53

had a great time and enjoyed this event. Look forward to easing back into shape and getting my fitness back to normal. Missing a lot of strength, stamina and endurance.

Golfed with Ben VanBee this afternoon at Sand Hollow. Fantastic after party. We had a blast and I lost like 8 golf balls which was awesome. Felt punch drunk the whole time I was playing.
