AM:  Turkey Point loop with Matt and Riley who is down for the holiday.  I was planning on only doing 5-6 miles.  Fun to have Riley along and talk about the Ogden crew.  Solid guy and runner.  I was told to stop the weights by these two.  Going to listen now and apply.  Ran with these guys for about 6 and then cut the loop short and ran back to Matt's.  Did 3 200 meter stride outs after the run at 5k pace.  Legs feel decent.  Looking forward to racing the 5k tomorrow...

Have you been doing lower body weights or just upper?

Weights have their place for some people but its tricky to get it right if you don't know EXACTLY what you are doing... you can easily do more harm than good. I figure if I'm not going to work with a strength & conditioning coach, the risk isn't worth it. I do a couple sets of pushups and pullups during my post run stretching every day and that is plenty. I'm actually even doing less of that than I used to.

And good luck tomorrow!

@Jake yeah I agree with everything you said. Riley and Matt said the exact same thing and it is hindering my progress so done I am applying this now. Thanks for the good luck I hope I can deliver...

I get why all that strength/balance stuff is important... but let's face it - not many of us are trying to shave our last 400 in a 5K down to 52 seconds from 52.5 :-)

For the most part, consistent running and doing whatever it takes to stay healthy is really the name of the game.

Totally agree, Jake.

Thanks for the run this morning, Spencer.
